School transport services
Pupils registered for school transport are entitled to a daily return journey between their town of residence and the school’s town.
If there is no suitable regional transport service for the pupil’s journey, a Family Transport Allowance (AFT) is paid to eligible pupils.
Your child is eligible if these 3 criteria are met:
› the child’s legal residence is in the Grand Est Region;
› the child attends a school in a town other than their place of residence;
› the child attends a school in accordance with the school catchment areas defined by the French Ministry of Education
If your child’s situation does not meet these criteria, they can still use the coaches subject to availability. You must register and pay for an annual school transport card at the current rate for “non-eligible pupils”.
A catchment area exemption does not guarantee access to “eligible” status. However, the Region can grant this status on the basis of a list of specific options.
For eligible primary school pupils, school transport is free, but you must register your child every year.
This is a priority objective of the Grand Est Region to ensure the supervision and safety of nursery school pupils on regional school transport. The role of the accompanying adult is to help the pupils on and off the coach. During the journey, they ensure their safety (seatbelts, discipline on board, etc.). They also ensure that the children are handed over to the school and to their parents on their return.
